Duo Cantique
Anna Hronová

She has played guitar since the age of six and studied under Iraklis Karasaridis at the Elementary Music School in Nový Bydžov, also learning piano and harp. Between 1993 and 1999 she studied guitar at the Pardubice Conservatory in the class of Prof. Petr Saidl. While a student, she was awarded the first prize and the title of laureate at the International Guitar Biennale in Kutná Hora (1998), the third prize at the International Guitar Competition Anna Amalia in Weimar (1999), and a special prize at the International Guitar Competition Forum Gitarre Wien in 2001 for the best interpretation of a composition by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. She continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, Germany, in the class of Prof. Dr. Thomas Offermann, graduating with both pedagogical (2003) and concert (2006) diplomas.

She cooperated with the orchestra of Volkstheater Rostock, she performed as a soloist with Mecklenburger Kammersolisten and she made television and radio recordings for NDR 3 Hamburg and Radio 3 Hamburg. Since 2003 she has been teaching at the Pardubice Conservatory. She performs in the Czech Republic and abroad – both as a soloist and in guitar duo with her husband.

Since 2006 she has been the organising director of the International Guitar Biennale, a guitar competition dedicated to interpretation and featuring master classes held in Kutná Hora (www.guitarkutnahora.cz). In 2009 she recorded the first duo CD with title "Cantique".

Jan Hron

He has played violin and piano since the age of seven. He began to study guitar with Viktor Kodeš at the age of fifteen. He continued his guitar studies at the Prague Conservatory in the class of Prof. Milan Zelenka (1991–1998) and subsequently in the master class of Prof. Jürgen Ruck at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg, Germany, where he received his master's degree in 2001. In 2000, he was selected for the Yehudi Menuhin — Live Music Now program in support of talented young musicians, for which he has performed on a number of occasions.

Between 1999 – 2006 he was teaching at Music Schools in Schweinfurt and Eslarn (Germany), until 2010 also at the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague. Presently he is working as a guitar teacher at the Conservatory Pardubice. In 2004 he recorded his debut album at Studio Principium (featuring compositions by J.A. Losy, B. Britten, J. Dowland, H.W. Henze, J.K. Mertz, F. Sor) and in 2009 duo CD with title "Cantique". In 2006 he made radio recordings for Český rozhlas (N. Coste, F. Sor).

He performs not only as a soloist and in guitar duo with his wife, but also as a sought-after chamber accompanist (baroque guitar, theorbo).

Those who want to understand music do not essentially need a good ear but a heart.
